After learning about Wikis and Blogs, I feel like wikis are an easier tool to integrate in a classroom because while blogs are everlasting, wikis usually result in a final product. Basically, wikis can be evaluated and graded while it would be challenging to do so for a blog. A teacher cannot simple ask students to make one blog post a week and also comment on one other site. Also, I feel like wikis are a better way of promoting collaboration than a blog.
I do see one benefit that blogs have over wikis. The history of updates on a wikis are not captured, while it is in a blog. Wait, now that I think about it, maybe teachers can evaluate a student on their blog. Teachers can observe a student’s progress over a period of time by looking through their log.
Maybe observing the student’s learning process is more important than evaluating a final product?

"Maybe observing the student’s learning process is more important than evaluating a final product?"
ReplyDeleteI think you are right in both of your lines of reasoning. It seems to me that the tool that you use should be determined by the type of evaluation system you are using. I normally lean towards evaluating a students journey rather than their final destination. I want to know how much they have grown rather than just what they know. So a tool that helps in observing the process of learning is a wonderful tool for me.
